Although baby teeth (primary teeth) fall out, they are still important to a child’s development for several reasons.  Baby teeth help kids talk properly, chew and digest their food and form a road map for the eruption of the permanent teeth. Unfortunately, nearly 50% of kids have tooth decay and this can lead to pain and potentially preventable trips to the doctor or hospital.

Our gentle and friendly team of trained Dentists and Oral Therapists recommend children have their first dental checkup at about age 1. Early and pro-active dental visits initially are designed to familiarise children with the normal sights and sounds and discuss any concerns parents may have.  Our clinicians will also discuss best practice for teeth brushing, diet and habits such as dummies and thumbsucking. At approximately age 3 most kids will have their full set of 20 primary teeth.

We recommend regular dental visits every 6 months with a focus on tooth decay prevention procedures such as fissure sealants. We will also check children’s teeth are following the normal eruption pattern, this may occasionally involve taking small but safe x-rays of their teeth.
