Professional Teeth Cleaning
Regular professional teeth cleaning is necessary to deliver a beautiful smile and maintain healthy teeth. Removal of harmful plaque and bacteria (biofilm) prevents tooth decay and gum disease. Plaque and bacteria from the mouth can also cause serious consequences and diseases in other parts of the body.
A particularly nasty bacteria called Porphyromonas gingivalis has been linked to Heart Disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Alzheimer’s, Diabetes, Oral and Pancreatic Cancer and many other serious diseases. By removing this biofilm, many of these serious disease may be prevented.
The revolutionary Swiss-made EMS Airflow System and Guided Biofilm Therapy uses warm water, air and a gentle powder to eliminates the plaque from the teeth surfaces, in those difficult to reach areas in-between teeth, as well as the shallow pockets under the gums and even the tongue surface! This treatment is performed by our trained clinicians in a minimally-invasive way ensuring maximum comfort for our patients. We recommend patients consider a professional teeth clean every 6 months.

Teeth Cleaning & Examination
A healthy smile is more than just your teeth, it includes the gums and bone around your teeth, your tongue and other soft tissues. A dental check-up involves a comprehensive examination of all these areas. Occasionally we may also need to take dental x-rays. These x-rays are safe and show dental decay, infections and potential problems with your teeth. Even if you do not feel you have any pain or problems with your mouth, it is important to visit us regularly so we can keep your smile healthy. We recommend a visit every 6 months.

Dental White Fillings
Fillings are used to restore your natural tooth’s structure if it has been damaged from decay or fractured from trauma. We have different dental filling materials depending on the type of problem. At Kalgoorlie Dental Surgery we use white filling materials such as composites or glass ionomer cements because they are strong, safe, aesthetically appealing and bond to the surface of the tooth. Composites can also be polished so the filling is almost indistinguishable from your natural tooth!
Dental amalgam is a silver or grey coloured filling material. It is strong and long-lasting, but more tooth structure needs to be removed for an amalgam filling. This type of filling is made with mercury, silver, copper, zinc and tin.
Many patients have concerns about amalgam fillings. Rest assured; Kalgoorlie Dental Surgery does not use amalgam filling material. Our trained clinicians will discuss with you if a filling is defective and needs to be safely replaced.
Dental Veneers
A dental veneer is made of a thin shell of porcelain or composite filling material, which is glued to the front surface of the tooth. Veneers may be placed on one or multiple teeth and restore symmetry and improve smile aesthetics. Dental veneers may be a suitable treatment option if your teeth are “gappy”, chipped, stained or crooked. Dental veneers involve planning, preparation and fitting appointments.

Crowns & Bridges
A crown may be suitable if a tooth is broken, cracked or decayed. A crown is also frequently recommended when a tooth has had root canal treatment. Crowns fit over a natural tooth and provide the tooth with added strength and durability. They can also improve the appearance of a tooth this is discoloured. Crowns can be made from a number of materials including porcelain, zirconia, gold or porcelain fused to a metal underlay. .
A dental bridge replaces one or more missing teeth. Most commonly, a dental bridge involves placing a crown on the teeth either side of a missing tooth. These crowns are joined together by another crown (referred to as a pontic) that acts as a false tooth.
Tooth Extraction
Tooth extraction is performed safely by our qualified and experienced Dentist & Therapists. A permanent tooth may need to be removed if it is infected, fractured or impacted. Sometimes a permanent tooth is removed to provide additional spacing prior to orthodontics (braces).
Deciduous (baby) teeth may need to be removed if the tooth is infected or if it is late to fall out (exfoliate). Your gentle and professional clinician will discuss the reasons why an extraction is recommended, the risks involved and offer you plenty of time to ask questions, understand the treatment and the cost involved.

Dental Emergencies
Toothache? Broken tooth? Lost filling? Pain?! Emergencies happen! Kalgoorlie Dental Surgery will always do our best to accommodate you with the next available appointment for your dental emergency. Our Dentists and Oral Therapists will diagnose, discuss treatment options and in most emergencies, are able to commence treatment on the day. This ensures you are out of pain as soon as possible! In most instances, your clinician will recommend you return for a follow-up appointment.
Wisdom Teeth
Wisdom teeth can start to erupt anywhere between the ages of 16-30! Most people do not have enough space in their jaws for wisdom teeth to easily erupt. If there is not enough space, the wisdom tooth will become impacted, meaning the tooth is stuck under the gum and unable to completely erupt.
Problems caused by impacted wisdom teeth may include infection, pain, cysts, ulcers and damage to the nearby teeth. If your wisdom teeth are causing problems, you may need to have them safely removed. The risks and complications of removing wisdom teeth will be explained prior to any treatment. Jump to Sleep Dentistry to learn more about your sedation options for wisdom teeth extractions.

Root Canal Treatment
A root canal treatment is performed to repair an infected tooth instead of removing the tooth. During a root canal treatment, our trained clinicians will remove the infected nerve of the tooth. Antibiotics are placed inside the tooth roots to help eliminate the infection. A special filling is placed is used to fill the root space. Root canal treatment is usually completed over three appointments. In some instances, we may need to refer some root canal treatments to a specialist, called an Endodontist.
Dentures
Are you missing teeth? Our teeth have a significant impact on our lives. They can influence how we speak and eat, as well as our self-esteem and confidence. Dentures are a treatment option to replace one or more missing teeth and can be made from acrylic or metal. Dentures are custom-made to fit your mouth. At Kalgoorlie Dental Surgery, we can fabricate dentures that are natural looking and help you eat, speak and smile confidently.

Clear Aligners
Clear plastic aligners can be an effective solution for straightening your teeth. Almost invisible and removable, clear aligners avoid many of the difficulties of traditional wire braces. Aligners are changed each week or fortnight and move the teeth into the desired position. Treatment may take between 6months and 24months depending on complexity and compliance. Retainers are important to wear post-treatment to reduce the likelihood of teeth movement relapse. Some movements are not possible with clear aligners – a consultation with our trained Dentists will discuss the most suitable treatment. Health fund rebates may apply.
Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening is a safe and effective treatment to lift extrinsic stains from teeth such as tea, coffee, red wine and smoking. In-chair whitening involves just two or three 20-minute treatments using a potent 40% hydrogen peroxide formula offers terrific results in as little as one hour! Take home whitening uses custom made trays to apply a safe whitening gel in the comfort of your home for approximately 30minutes per treatment for at least two weeks. Take home whitening and in-surgery whitening treatments are offered at Kalgoorlie Dental Surgery. Health fund rebates apply.
